IT6152 (MIPI DSI to DP1.4 /eDP)

1. General Description

The IT6152 is a high-performance and low-power dual-port MIPI to DisplayPort converter. With two MIPI receivers and one DisplayPort transmitter, the IT6152 converts dual or single port MIPI input to single DisplayPort output. Each MIPI input can operate in 1/2/4-lane mode. Lane-swap and PN-swap are separately available for flexible circuit layout.

The built-in MIPI receivers are D-PHY 2.0 and DSI-2 ver. 2.0 compatible, capable of supporting up to 2.5Gbps/Lane and 20Gbps bandwidth in dual-input mode. The IT6152 supports MIPI DSI streams such as packed-pixel-stream: RGB in 16/18/24/30/36-bit, YCbCr422 in 16/20/24-bit,YCbCr420 in 12-bit, and loosely-packed-pixel-stream: RGB in 18-bit, YCbCr422 in 20-bit. Both sync pulse and sync event packets can be received with HSync and VSync generated as original or by firmware setting. The RX/TX deep color capability (up to 36-bit) ensures robust reception of high-quality uncompressed or compressed video content.

The integrated high-performance DisplayPort transmitter is fully compliant with DisplayPort 1.4a and HDCP 1.3 /2.3 specifications. The IT6152 is equipped with color space conversion and dithering capabilities for format conversion and enhancement.

The IT6152 supports VRR function as well, so that VRR feature can be implemented in the system.

Aside from the various video features, the IT6152 also provides up to 8 channels of I²S digital audio inputs, with sampling rate of up to 192 kHz and sample size of up to 24 bits, facilitating direct connection to industry-standard audio codec. The default setting of multi-channel audio interface is via multiple I²S signals; nevertheless, one I²S signal can be used to transmit multi-channel LPCM audio using Time Division Multiplexed (TDM) interface, supporting 4/6/8-channel configurations. Optionally, an S/PDIF input is available to support compressed audio of up to 192 kHz frame rate. Super Audio Compact Disc (SACD) is also supported with up to 8 channels and 88.2 kHz through optional DSD (Direct Stream Digital) inputs. The High-Bit Rate (HBR) audio can be supported by the IT6152 via two interfaces at up to 765 kHz: the four I²S input ports or the S/PDIF input port. The selected audio content is inserted and transmitted in the DisplayPort stream to downstream sinks.

With embedded MCU and Flash, IT6152 is easy to program through the ISP interface via PCSCL/PCSDA. Customers need no external Flash or MCU, thus saving BOM cost and board size.

IT6152: High-Efficiency MIPI-to-DisplayPort Bridge for 4K Multimedia Systems

As high-resolution displays become increasingly prevalent across tablets, industrial PCs, and video conferencing systems, system integrators are seeking flexible and power-efficient bridge solutions that can interface modern SoCs with DisplayPort-based panels. The IT6152 from ITE Tech is a high-performance, low-power MIPI-to-DisplayPort bridge IC that supports either DisplayPort 1.4 or eDP output via a single output port. With dual MIPI D-PHY input ports, 2-slice DSC decoding capability, and rich audio features, the IT6152 offers a compact yet feature-rich solution for next-generation embedded displays.

Dual-Port MIPI Input for Maximum Throughput

The IT6152 supports up to two independent MIPI DSI input ports (each configurable for 1/2/4 lanes), allowing for either single- or dual-port input configurations. This provides up to 8 total lanes and an aggregated bandwidth of up to 20 Gbps, enabling seamless handling of high-resolution video data. Each MIPI port is compliant with MIPI D-PHY v2.0 and DSI-2 v2.0, supporting a wide range of pixel formats including:

  • Packed RGB (16/18/24/30/36-bit), YCbCr422 (16/20/24-bit), and YCbCr420 (12-bit)
  • Loosely packed RGB (18-bit) and YCbCr422 (20-bit)

The bridge supports both sync pulse and sync event packet types, with flexible HSync/VSync configuration either from the panel or firmware. It also includes lane and PN swapping features for optimized PCB layout routing. In terms of resolution, the IT6152 supports video formats up to 4Kx2K@60Hz via either dual-port, non-DSC input or single-port DSC input, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of high-resolution display applications.

Full DP 1.4 Compatibility with Advanced Visual Features

The DisplayPort transmitter is fully compliant with DP 1.4a and supports HDCP 1.3 and 2.3, offering secure transmission of protected content. Built-in features like color space conversion and jitter cleaning allow for precise output tuning. The IT6152 also supports eDP with ASSR and Alternative Framing modes, enabling compatibility with embedded displays. For dynamic video content, Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) is also supported, improving the experience for gaming and interactive use cases. Additionally, it supports 2-slice DSC decoding (up to 4Kx2K 10-bit), helping to reduce data rates without compromising image quality.

Multi-Channel Audio Integration for Embedded Systems

Beyond video, the IT6152 integrates robust audio processing capabilities. It supports up to 8-channel LPCM audio input via I²S, with sampling rates up to 192kHz and bit depths up to 24-bit. Multiple audio delivery options are supported:

  • Up to 8 channels via multi-lane I²S or TDM mode (4/6/8 ch on single I²S)
  • S/PDIF input for compressed audio (up to 192kHz)
  • DSD input for high-fidelity applications (up to 8 channels at 88.2kHz)
  • High Bit Rate (HBR) audio support up to 765kHz, with seamless integration into DP audio streams

The design also provides flexibility by allowing system developers to implement the audio input interface with or without MCLK, offering greater freedom in clock architecture and board-level integration.

Embedded MCU and Flash for Simplified System Design

The IT6152 comes with an integrated MCU and internal Flash, supporting firmware updates via PCSCL / PCSDA. This removes the need for external SPI Flash or host MCUs for initialization and control, reducing BOM cost and simplifying PCB design. Intelligent, programmable power management features are also included to further optimize system efficiency and thermal performance.

Broad Compatibility with Leading SoC Platforms

The IT6152 has been validated with popular SoC platforms including MediaTek, Qualcomm, Rockchip, and NXP, making it a drop-in solution for applications such as:

  • Tablets and convertible laptops
  • Point-of-sale (POS) terminals
  • Industrial PCs (IPC)
  • Network Video Recorders (NVRs)
  • Video conferencing systems
