IT6520: High-Integration USB-C to MIPI Display Controller Empowering Next-Gen Mobility and Interactive Systems

As mobile devices, AR/VR wearables, in-vehicle displays, and multimedia terminals continue to evolve, the demand for high-resolution, low-latency, and multi-interface display solutions is growing rapidly. ITE Tech Inc.’s IT6520 is designed specifically to meet these challenges, offering a highly integrated chip that combines USB Type-C PD control, DisplayPort Alt-mode reception, and MIPI output into a single solution. It simplifies product development, reduces BOM cost, and delivers the performance required for next-gen display systems.

Multi-Protocol Integration for Streamlined System Design

The IT6520 features a fully integrated USB-C controller supporting DRP / DFP / UFP role-switching, along with Dead Battery mode. It complies with USB PD 2.0 / 3.0 (including chunk mode) and incorporates a DisplayPort 1.4a receiver supporting up to 4 lanes of HBR3 (8.1Gbps per lane), delivering a total bandwidth of 32.4Gbps — enough for 4K@120Hz ultra-HD video.

On the output side, it supports dual-channel MIPI C-PHY / D-PHY architecture and complies with MIPI DSI-2 and CSI-2 standards. It enables seamless connectivity to mainstream display panels across a wide range of embedded and mobile platforms.

Rich Video Format Support for Versatile Applications

The IT6520 supports multiple output formats, including RGB888/666/565 under DSI mode and YUV422, YUV420_8b/10b/12b, YUV444, and RGB10/12 formats in CSI mode. Whether the application requires standard panel formats or proprietary configurations, the IT6520 offers flexible compatibility.

The integrated programmable Color Space Conversion (CSC) engine supports bi-directional RGB ↔ YCbCr (444/422/420) conversion, delivering precise color reproduction and optimized visual quality for various content types.

Integrated Audio for Full AV Experiences

In addition to video processing, the IT6520 also supports 8-channel high-resolution digital audio, with specifications up to 192kHz / 24-bit LPCM. It enables synchronized AV output over USB-C, making it an ideal solution for immersive multimedia and consumer applications.

Built-In MCU and Flash for Faster Development

With its internal MCU and programmable flash memory, the IT6520 can perform initialization and control independently, reducing external MCU dependence. The built-in I2C control interface allows easy integration with host SoCs, helping designers accelerate time-to-market.

Broad Applications Across Emerging Devices

The IT6520 is validated on various embedded platforms and ideal for:

  • Tablets and laptops with USB-C to MIPI panel output
  • Handheld gaming consoles and media players
  • AR/VR head-mounted devices with high frame rate display
  • Automotive IVI and dashboard panels with MIPI interface
